© 2007 Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary
The sanctuary is funded entirely by our own efforts, primarily our boarding cattery, our shop and our fund raising events, and by donations and legacies from members and friends. We are independent of all other charities, and frequently take cats from them - usually the ones with problems!
Wages, food, and other costs for year 2007 totalled £162,000. We spend approximately £25,000 a year with our Vet - money well spent because it means the cats we re-home, often middle aged or older, go to their new homes as fit as possible, with clean teeth, clean ears and no worms!
The profits from the boarding cattery, the shop, our open day, Christmas Fair and other fund raisers, donations from visitors and store collections, pay about 85% of our yearly running costs. The rest has to come from reserves.
All the improvements to the sanctuary, where there is always something which needs renewing, and on which we have spent some £400,000 in the past 8 years, comes from legacies and gifts for specific projects such as replacement chalets.
In the long term the continued existence of the Sanctuary will depend on people being willing to leave us money in their wills. We are not a large organisation, but we try to keep administrative costs to a minimum so that most of everything we are given goes directly towards the welfare of needy cats which people have discarded. We believe we are a worthy cause.
Membership of the sanctuary costs only £7.50 per year for which you will receive 2 newsletters with details of all our activities. When applying for or renewing membership, please tell us if you pay tax at the standard rate. If you do, we can recover the tax for the gift aid scheme and every £1 you give is worth £1.28 to our cats!
